Description:
The secret to these early 911's, which demands driver confidence and skill is to accelerate through the bend - and definitely not lift off the throttle. Get it right and these cars, with their agility, lack of driver aids and that great sounding flat-6 are real fun and rewarding to drive.
Presented here is a 1969 Porsche 911 S Targa meticulously restored to original specification. The restoration has been handled professionally by Bailey Motors and their trusted partners over the course of 16 months between 2014 and 2016. The owner spared no expense and this highly desirable car has benefitted from a complete bare metal restoration in which every nut and bolt was stripped, refurbished and reassembled. The car is one of 614 Targa S produced in 1969 with chassis number 119310332. The car was originally supplied with engine number 6391225 and has since been replaced with engine number 6390939 which is also a S specification engine manufactured in 1969 and is also priced advantageously. During the engine rebuild extended sleeves and pistons were fitted to increase the 2.0 S to the desirable 2.2 S configuration. The original Tangerine colour (code: 6809) and Pepita interior combination contrasts beautifully with the S specification chrome detailing. Every detail has been carefully observed to match the original specification.

The 911 traces its roots to sketches drawn by Ferdinand “Butzi” Porsche in 1959.[7] The Porsche 911 was developed as a more powerful, larger and a more comfortable replacement for the 356, the company’s first model. The new car made its public debut at the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show[8] (German: Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung).[9] The car was developed with the proof-of-concept twin-fan Type 745 flat-six engine, but the car presented at the auto show had a non-operational mockup of the single-fan 901 engine, receiving a working unit in February 1964.[7]
It originally was designated as the “Porsche 901” (901 being its internal project number). A total of 82 cars were built as which were badged as 901s. However, French automobile manufacturer Peugeot protested on the grounds that in France it had exclusive rights to car names formed by three numbers with a zero in the middle. Instead of selling the new model with a different name in France, Porsche changed the name to 911. Internally, the cars’ part numbers carried on the prefix 901 for years. Production began in September 1964, with the first 911s exported to the US in February 1965.
