Sunday's Cars & Coffee event hosted by Morgenhof Estate in partnership with The Archive was a huge success. A very big thank you to all who attended. We can all be very proud of our unique Western Cape car culture. Passion is plenty and the people make it colourful and interesting.
The weather cooperated. The bright blue sky made the cars shine against the dramatic mountainous wine-land landscape and there was a make and model for just about everyone. Nearly every type of vehicle was represented and every one of them had a unique story to share. Some had been restored, others were daily drivers, Sunday specials and a few were a mix of all. With a Truth coffee in one hand, we took a stroll around to see what we could find. The best part of the show was that all of the vehicles were driven there, no trailer queens.
The success of this show, in our mind, can be attributed to the fact that it brought in a wide scope of vehicles, but it kept the scale small enough to discourage the show-off behaviour that gets these morning meets canceled all too frequently. Morgenhof Wine Estate was ultra efficient in its use of space, and it didn’t disrupt the local community in the least, and in fact it became hard to tell who was simply passing through and who was actively in attendance for the full show. This Cars and Coffee served as an example of what a well organised and thought out version can be. With the potential for more events in the future we are very excited to work closely with Morgenhof to provide the ultimate park off experience for the ever expanding Western Cape car community.
For one person in particular this was an extra special day. A week prior to our Cars & Coffee event we were approached by Chantelle Nel and her husband through our social media channels desperate to make their friend's dream come true and provide a supercar experience for him as a belated birthday present and life goal. Her friend, Rees John is an avid petrol head and a known regular visitor to The Archive. Rees was sadly diagnosed with brain cancer in 2013 and after several operations, chemotherapy & radiation treatments they were not able to stop the spread of the cancer. Rees and his family recently learned that his condition is terminal but he's a fighter and refuses to give up. We're right behind you! With such infectious enthusiasm and passion for life and supercars we were honoured to be a part of his fight and dream by providing him with an experience and the motivation needed to keep his spirit high and fighting.
The stars aligned. The Group A Drivers Club came to party with all 35 members offering up a seat and clambering over an opportunity to sit shotgun with such a strong willed petrol head. We had a Ferrari 458 Speciale with special thanks to an anonymous collector, we had an event and we had passion. We would also like to mention a special thank you to Scuderia South Africa for providing a gift for Rees's experience and for winning the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix just to top his day off. Thank you again guys.
